Wrestling Competes at District Duals

The Saints men's wrestling team competed in the Eastern District 1 Duals this past weekend. The Saints took on SUNY (State University of New York) Sullivan,  Nassau Community College, and SUNY Ulster. 


In the first dual meet against Sullivan there was a couple of forfeits through out the meet. Saints wrestlers that received a forfeit include 133lber Tyrone Sims, and 149lber Derbison Sulfranc. The saints gave up a forfeit at the weight classes of 125lbs and 141lbs. The Saints were led by Sophmore's Derek Ridgeway 157lber, Deven Simpson 184lber and Freshman 197lber Hunter Harnish who all wrestled to wins in their matches. Ridgeway moved up a weight class to wrestle at 165lbs and got a Fall over Allen Reyes in the time of 1:17.  Simpson received a major decision of 11-2 over Thomas Grant. Harnish moved up to heavy weight and recorded a fall over Joshua Jean-Baptiste in the time of 2:44. The Saints won the dual meet by a score of 28-18.


In the next match the Saints faced some tough competition in Nassau Community College. The lone wrestler to record a win for the Saints was Sophmore 184lber Deven Simpson. Freshman 197lber Hunter Harnish had a tough loss against the #8 ranked wrestler in the country losing by a score of 11-9. The Saints lost the dual meet by a score of 50-3. 


In the third in and final dual meet the Saints won a close one by a score of 27-24. Leading the Saints with wins were sophmore's  Derek Ridgeway and Deven Simpson. 157lber  Ridgeway won with a shut out 11-0 against Lakell Martin. 184lber Simpson won by Tech Fall with a score of 18-2 over Will Sickles. Receiving forfeits were Sims 133lber, Harnish 197lber, and Slocum HWT. 


The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, January 17th when they take on Jamestown Community College at home in a dual meet  at 7pm. Just a few days later the Saint will be heading down to Greenville, Pennsylvania where they will wrestle in the Thiel Duals. At the duals they will wrestle against some solid Division III schools in Muskingum University, Lourdes University, and the host team Thiel College. Competition begins at 1pm in Beeghly Gymnasium.
