(Batavia, NY) On Thursday, the women's soccer team traveled to Genesee Community College to take the #10 team in the country, GCC.
In first half action, the game was close as both teams had opportunities but neither could capitalize. It wasn't until the 23 minutes when GCC broke free and bound the back of the net beating MNE goalkeeper Kym Brain. 43 seconds later, GCC would score again on a quick let down by the Saints. The score would remain 2-0 through the half. "I was happy with our play in the first half. If we took away 45 seconds, it would have ended 0-0. I thought we were keeping with and at times had the #10 team in the country on their heels," says Coach Hordych.
In second half action, coupled with some key injuries for MNE, GCC showed why they were #10 in the country. They rallied off 4 goals, including 2 within another 45 second span to cap off the game 6-0. "GCC is a great team, no doubts. However if we take away a minute and a half, and correct some small mistakes, the game has a different outcome. This early on in the season, things like that happen. We learn, and move on. We'll be ready for our next game," says Hordych.
The Saints are back in action as they take on Niagara CC for their home opener on Wednesday, September 3rd at 5:00 on Vineyard field.
