The Saints traveled to majestic Canandaigua, NY to take on the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers. "We have not played FLCC in the past couple years so we're very excited for the opportunity. Finger Lakes are a perennial powerhouse and always ranked in the top 10 in the country. This will be a great opportunity to see what our squad can do", says Coach Hordych.
In first half action, the Saints seemed to feel comfortable as they possessed the ball and had a couple early opportunities. When all seemed to be going well, the Saints turned the ball over in the midfield and FLCC played a direct ball to an on running Laker who finished the easy break away making the score 1-0. The Saints however would battle back and eventually Harley Boyd would receive a ball from Deja Dixon on a free kick for the equalizer bringing the score to 1-1. Moments before the end of the half, Amanda Sonney found herself in a great scoring opportunity when she received a ball from Haley Schwindt, beating the keeper and giving the Saints the 2-1 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the game was evenly played until the 52nd minute when FLCC would get the game tieing goal making the score 2-2, which would hold for the final 38 minutes for regulation and two full 10 minute golden goal overt times.
The Saints outshot the Lakers 26-20, however both keepers came up big when needed. "We would have loved a win vs. FLCC, but to work 110 minutes, against a solid team and walk away with a result is a great achievement," says Coach Hordych.
With the draw, the Saints move to 1-1-1 on the season and are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Ohio to take on Lorain County Community College
