Women's Soccer Falls, Fairmont State Has Big Second Half

On Thursday afternoon, NCAA DII Fairmont State traveled to Mercyhurst North East to take on the women's soccer team. In first half action, the Saints held their ground with numerous scoring attempts including two shots hitting the cross bar, just could not find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Kym Braine came up big a few times for the Saints making numerous big saves, helping the saints keep a scoreless first half at 0-0.

As the second half got underway, it seemed to open the scoring floodgates. FS got on the board the 3rd minute into play when they drilled a shot from outside the 18, beating Dahlaney Sargent, who got the second half start, in goal. It was only a minute and a half later that Harley Boyd would even the score at 1 when she received a diagonal ball from Mikayla Cagnoli and touched the shot past the FS keeper. FS would continue the barrage of scoring by putting another three goals in making the score 4-1. In the final twenty, Deja Dixon would step up for a PK for the Saints and bring them a goal closer to evening the score 4-2. It was in the final ten minutes of play, when FS would put the nail in coffin with a 5th and final goal, bringing the final score to 5-2.

With the lose, the Saints drop to 8-4-1 on the season and are back in action next weekend when they face Lorain CC at home on Saturday 10/11 and then play Anne Arundel CC on Sunday 10/12 @ Monroe Community College.
