Men's and Women's Soccer Play "Breast Cancer Awareness Game"

On Friday, the men's and women's soccer teams took to the field with pink accents and played in their 2nd annual "Breast Cancer Awareness" inter squad scrimmage. Coach Hordych (women's soccer coach) and Coach Blythe (men's soccer coach) each coached a team, that was selected days prior of both men and women players.

In first half action, Coach Hordych's team seemed to control the game by moving the ball and executing to almost perfection. It was was in the 30th minute that Tristan Desnerck would but "Team Independence" on the board with a lovely finish past "Team Freedom's" goalkeeper Ryan Walsh. This goal concluded the scoring in first half giving Team Independene the 1-0 lead at break.

In the second half, Team Freedom finally got moving as Lexi Whisel would get the team on the board when she chipped goalkeeper, Criag Martin, to get the equalizer. As the game progress, Matt Schenberg would play a great diagonal through ball to an on running Desnerck would would capitalize easily on the break away giving Team Independence the 2-1 lead. However, Team Freedom would not go away, once again finding the tieing goal on a cross with an easy finish on the back post, bringing the score to 2-2. At that point, a shoot out was on the horizon as both teams were struggling to get the game winner. It wasn't until the last 7 minutes that Team Freedom would come down on the attack with a great out swinging cross and once again, women's player Lexi Whisel took the volley out of the air and drove it past Team Independence to give her the game winning goal, and give her team the 3-2 victory.

Coach Blythe is now 2-0 in this annual game and Coach Hordych will look to close the gap next fall in their 3rd annual game.

Many thanks go out to all in attendance and everyone that donated money to sponsor the players in the game. All proceeds will be donated to "Patti's Pink Warriors" of North East.
