Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With 1-1 Draw

On Sunday, October 26th, the women's soccer game played in their final regular season game of the year, and for the sophomore class, their last game on vineyard field. Sporting pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness, the Saints battled Fairmont State to a 1-1 tie.

In first half action, Fairmont State took little time getting on the board when a ball was played forward that eventually deflected of MNE keeper to an on running FS player for an easy finish, giving FS an early 1-0 lead. The saints would rally back including a strike from Harley Boyd that hit the post, but just couldn't find the back of the net in the first half making the halftime score 1-0.

In the second half, the game would remain a 1 goal differential for most of the half. It wasnt until the Saints were awarded a corner kick in which Emily Griffith drove a ball to the six to an energtic Amanda Sonney who won the ball out of the air and headed it past the FS goalkeeper, evening the score at 1-1.

The two sides would stay at 1-1 throughout the remainder of regulation and two ten minute overtime periods were not enough to declare a winner as the game ended 1-1.

With the tie, the Saints record moves to 11-5-2 on the year and their next game is against Monroe Community College in the Region III Championships on saturday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m.
