The women's soccer team had to earn their 6th win in a row on Thursday evening at Vineyard Field on the campus of Mercyhurst North East. In first half action, the game was back and fourth. It was Mikayla Cagnoli who would open up the scoring in the 10th minute of play when she received a pass from Deja Dixon across the box and volleyed the shot past the keeper for the 1-0 lead. For the next 30 minutes, the game would go back and fourth from one end to the other. It was in the 39th minute the Cagnoli would get her second goal of the day and drive a shot past ECC keeper for the 2-0 lead, which would stay through the 1st half.
In the second half, it was ECC who would get going as they knocked in 2 goals in the opening 8 minutes of play to tie the game at 2 goals a piece. This would stay for the next twenty minutes until Emily Griffith received a square pass from Deja Dixon about 30 yards out and would riffle a shot past the ECC keeper to score what would be the game winner. In the last fifteen minutes of play, each team had a couple chances, but it was Kym Braine for the Saints that came up big in goal to get the win.
With the win, the Saints move to 6-1-0 on the season and are off to the best start in program history. The Saints are off this weekend, and back in action on Monday when they travel to Erie CC for a rematch.
