Women's Soccer Host Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game

On Tuesday, the Saints hosted Point Park's JV squad. The two teams played last month at Point Park in which the Saints came out on top 2-1. This game would hold a little more meaning to the team this time as they sported pink jerseys in recognition of breast cancer awareness month, and also it is "Pink Week" at MNE. "So many of our current players, alumni, supporters and friends have been affected by breast cancer. If we can do our small part in helping create awareness that someday may lead to a cure, than thats the biggest win we could ask for," says Coach Hordych.

Once the game got under way, the Saints wasted little time and Megan McKinney would begin the scoring in the 17th minute to give the Saints the 1-0 advantage. Later in the first half, Nichole Ward would recieve a ball from Maria Detar on the outside of the box and would chip a shot over the keeper and into the back of the net, making it her first collegiate goal of her career, this would turn into a second half theme. Moments before halftime, Amanda Sonney would get a goal of her own to take the score to 3-0, which would hold going into half.

In the second half, Amanda Sonney would tally a second goal bringing the score to 4-0. Point Park would then get on the board as they drilled a shot over MNE keeper Kym Braine, which hit the crossbar, bounced down and up into the net, taking the score to 4-1. Two others would then join Nichole Ward in scoring their first collegiate goal ever, Kristi Williams would score on a corner take and Emily Warner would drill a shot to the near post beating the PPJV keeper for what would be the last goal of the day, making the final 6-1.

The Saints have ten days off and are back in action on October 18th when they host Finger Lakes Community College at Vineyard Field.
