On a cold October Sunday afternoon, the Saints women's soccer team hosted the Lakers of Finger Lakes Community College. The Saints saw some early opportunities in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net. It was in the 25th minute that FLCC got on the board when Hayley Alden ripped a shot from outside the 18 to beat MNE goalkeeper Kym Braine for the 1-0 lead. 13 minutes later, FLCC would connect on a corner kick when Abigail Keenan served a ball into the box and Ali Henby was there for the finish, taking the score to 2-0 FLCC at halftime.
As the second half got underway, the Saints looked to clean things up and put a little more pressure on FLCC to try to get back into the game. It was in the 60th minute when MNE's Morgan York would service a ball from the outside into an on running Amanda Sonney for a one touch finish, taking the score to 2-1 in favor of FLCC. Just 3 minutes later, Amanda Sonney would find a great ball from defender Lexi Whisel for a shot on frame, which deflected off and FLCC defender and into the back of the net, tieing the game a 2 a peice. This score would hold through regulations and for the finish.
Kym Braine made 10 saves in net for the Saints including 2 stellar saves to help her team get the draw. With the tie, the Saints move to 8-3-1 on the season and are back in action on next weekend when they travel to Michigan to take on Jackson CC on Saturday, and then play Owens CC on the way home on Sunday.
