The NJCAA Region III announced its All-Region team this week in which the Saints women's soccer team had five players receive the this honor; Amanda Sonney, Megan McKinney, Jazmyn Szymckzak, Maria Detar and Lexi Whisel.
Amanda Sonney, a sophomore, led the Saints in points this fall as she found the back of the net on 9 occasions and dished out 2 assists for a total of 20 points. Sonney was selected All-Region as a freshman as well.
Megan McKinney, a sophomore, had 5 goals and 3 assists for a total of 13 points on the year. Both Sonney and McKinney ended their careers ranked in the top 10 in points for the Saints women's soccer program.
Jazmyn Szymckzak, a freshman, had 2 goals and 1 assist on the season for 5 points. Jazmyn was a player that saw herself playing as a defender, a midfielder and sometimes at forward. Her speed and physical play helped her earn this honor.
Maria Detar, a sophomore, was an outside back for the Saints. She helped lead the Saints to 5 shutout victories and was an integral part of the Saints back line.
Lexi Whisel, a sophomore, was a center back that led the Saints defense all season long. Lexi is now a two year All-Region selection and will go down as one of the best center backs in program history.
"I am very proud of these girls for being named to the All-Region team. It is a great honor, especially for the four sophomores, who all received this honor as a freshman as well," states head coach Jacob Hordych. Sonney, McKinney, Whisel and Detar are now one of only nine players in program history to ever receive the honor as both a freshman and sophomore.
