W.I.N.S: Rachel Pacholke

W.I.N.S. (Weekly Interviews with Notable Saints) is a weekly interview series that takes an in depth look at a Saints coach, athlete, administrator or supporter. A one on one question and answer session lets you take a look at their Saints athletics involvement and lets you get to know the person a little better. This week, we sat down with MNE Head Women's Volleyball coach Rachel Pacholke to find out a little bit more about her career, and some other fun facts.


When did you start coaching at MNE and what is your coaching background?

"I started coaching at MNE in 2012. I have coached previous at Lakeland CC volleyball 2009-2011. I also coached softball at Lake Erie College in 2012. "

You were both a coach and student athlete for MNE. How do they differ? What experiences have you had as a player that you try to give your players?

"The roles differ from time to time. As a student athlete here you are trying to fit in, adjust to different people, and maybe get homesick because you are living in a different environment. As a coach I'm given the opportunity to make the students college experience better than it has been in the past. I know that volleyball program has had its up and downs. Trying to find the connection to make the program be on the rise is always a challenge. Having leaders, great communicators, and obvious athletic ability can only strive to be the best out of everyone on the team."

What is one of the best aspects of coaching at MNE?

"Best aspects of coaching at MNE, I was in the students shoes years back. Helping students improve their lifestyles and providing sources for them to succeed in their career fields"

What is your favorite MNE Volleyball memory?

"As of now my favorite volleyball memory coaching is beating Genesee CC Oct. 2nd, 2014. I was so thrilled they stepped up and beat them after losing to them for years. It kind of reminded me of David and Goliath"

What is your favorite professional sport teams?

"NFL-Steelers, MLB-Cleveland Indians, NBA-Cavs"

What is the last book you read?


What is your favorite movie?

"Favorite movie would be League of Their Own"

What is your favorite food?

"Chicken Parmesan"

Best advice ever given?

"Don't burn bridges with people you hate or dislike you might have to cross back over that bridge in the future"

What is your dream job?

"Coaching at a higher level D1. Or working on a cruise ship"

Who is your mentor/rolemodel?

"Coachie Dewey (MNE Director of Athletics/Head Softball Coach)"

If there was a movie based on your life, who would play you?

"Melissa McCarthy"

Favorite activities to do in the off season? Hobbies?

"Scrapbooking and playing beach volleyball"

If you were a professional baseball player, what would your coming out song be?

"Jadakiss - The Champ Is Here; or the Hokey Pokey lol"
