On Monday evening, the women's volleyball team kicked off Pink Week as part of Mercyhurst North East's campaign to help promote breast cancer awareness and also help raise funds to battle breast cancer. The Saints battled the Pioneers of Butler County Community College and besides 3 close games, the Saints pulled through to sweep the Pioneers 3-0. Game scores were: 27-25, 25-22 and 25-23.
In attendance for the game was local resident Pattie Stempka who is the founder of "Pattie's Pink Warriors". All proceeds from the game which included t-shirt sales, basket raffles and serving games went to "Pattie's Pink Warriors". Since founding the group in 2008, Pattie's Pink Warriors have raised over $124,000 to go to the American Cancer Society in hoping to find a cure for cancer.
With the win, the Saints are now 5-13 and are back in action Wednesday evening at home vs. Pitt Bradford's JV team for a 6:00 start.
