The Saints won their pool before falling in the championship game of the WNYAC Tournament held at Jamestown Community College.
The Saints were the number 3 seed going into the tournament, and started off by sweeping Niagara by scores of 25-17 and 25-12. Erin Froehlich led the Saints with six kills while Emily Smith had 17 assists. Alexis White had five digs for the winners.
In the second match, Mercyhurst took on number two seed Genesee Community College. The Saints and Cougars tied in the conference standings, but GCC was the higher seed as they defeated Mercyhurst during the regular season in conference play.
Mercyhurst would get revenge in an exciting back and forth match, winning the best of three match after a 16-14 win in the deciding set. Paige Morehouse and Froehlich both had seven kills to lead the Saints while Smith added on another 20 assists. While had nine digs and three aces for the Saints.
With the win, the Saints advanced to the championship to take on the number one seeded Jamestown team. JCC had defeated Mercyhurst in both regular season matchups and this would be no different as the Jayhawks won in two sets.
Rachel Brenner led the Saints with 8 kills while White had 11 digs for MNE.
The Saints two tournament wins qualifies them for the District Tournament for the first time in school history. Mercyhurst will travel to Lackawanna College November 3rd to participate with Region 19 schools for a bid to the National Tournament.
