MNE Adds Men's and Women's Cross Country; Welcomes New Coach

The Mercyhurst North East Athletic department is proud to announce the addition of Men's and Women's Cross Country, both of which will be coached by Shawn Wiler who has recently joined the MNE staff.

Brian Dewey, the Athletic Director at MNE, is thrilled to add the two sports, along with Wiler as the Head Coach. When asked about the recent acquisitions, Dewey commented:

We are excited to bring back cross country to our athletic department after a four year hiatus. Cross County is a growing sport in our region and will give our athletes more opportunities to compete. Shawn is the perfect fit to get our program back up to speed, as he not only was successful as a student athlete here at MNE, but went on to run at the Erie campus as well. He knows our campus, and knows our students, which will give him a great advantage.

Wiler holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and Sports Management, along with a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership. Wiler ran Cross Country and Track along with playing soccer for Corry Area High School before enrolling at Mercyhurst North East. At MNE, Wiler was the lead runner for both of his years and currently holds the school record for the 8k and 5k distances. Wiler then earned a scholarship to run at Division II Mercyhurst and was one of three lead pack runners. During his time at Mercyhurst, Wiler was a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete Award winner, and a two time Regional All-Academic Award winner.

In addition to his successful running career, Wiler has coached both Track and Field, and Cross Country for the Corry Area High/Middle School. Wiler also had a short stint coaching for the North East School District in 2014-15. With a well decorated history, Wiler will look translate his successful running and coaching experiences to MNE's newly developed program.
