Men’s Soccer Falls Short This Past Week

NORTH EAST, PA- The Mercyhurst North East Men's Soccer team had two tough games this week, playing host to Region 3 rivals Monroe Community College on Sunday, September 29th, and hosting Erie CC on Wednesday, October 2nd. The Saints, coming off a 3 game winning streak, were playing really well heading into Sundays match and started the game out very strongly only to give up a goal off of a deflection 20 minutes into the first half. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Monroe for most of the game, with the Saints being awarded a PK early on in the 2nd half. #14 Sophomore, Hector Corrales, would see his pk attempt saved to keep the shutout for Monroe. In the last minute of the game, Monroe was able to double their lead off of a long direct free kick. The game would end in favor of Monroe 2-0.

On Wednesday October 2nd,  the Saints hosted Erie CC, the game would start off in similar fashion with both teams getting forward and attacking. Erie CC would find the net first within the first 15 minutes and then double that tally in the 41st minute with a headed goal coming off of a corner kick. The Saints would get one just before half as a hand ball in the box saw #10 freshman, Daniel Benine, put the pk away to make it 2-1 at half. The second half would see more goals with Erie scoring within the first 15 minutes of the second half to go up 3-1. The Saints would battle back and put together attack after attack in the last 30 minutes of the half. #10 Daniel Benine would find the net again for the Saints with a goal off of a corner kick but it wasn't enough as Erie would hold on to win the game 3-2.

The Saints are back in action next Saturday, October 12th as they travel to Lorain CC.
