Men's Soccer Finishes with 5 All Region Athletes

The Mercyhurst North East Saints ended up Runners up in Region 3 again this past season, but not without a few records being broken for the program. Most notably, the Saints scored a record shattering 52 goals, which equated to a 3.06 goals per game average for the year. The previous record for goals in a season, for the Saints, was 36 goals. The following players, who were all selected for the all-region 3 team also shined bright with their stats and overall performances this year.


Daniel Binene- Freshman, #10, Forward- Daniel finished the year as the Saints co-leader in goals scored (11), leader in assists (8), and leader in overall points (30). Binene's 30 points were not only the most for this season, but also set the Mercyhurst North East school record for points in a season by 1 point. These stats also landed him in the top 100 players for each of the 3 categories, for NJCAA division 1 players; 59th in goals scored, 63rd in assists, and 51st in total points, respectively. Daniel started all 17 games for the Saints this year.


Justin Fuller- Sophomore, #13, Forward- Justin returned to the Saints this year as second year striker playing in 16 of the 17 games, with 14 starts. Within those 16 matches, Justin was the co-leader in goals scored (11), second on the team with assists (5) and second on the team in total points (27). Fullers biggest stat of the year, however, was his 5 game winning goals; good enough to place him at 7th place in the top 100 for division 1 NJCAA.


Hector Corrales- Sophomore, #1/#14, Goalkeeper/Midfielder- For the second season in a row, Corrales found himself both in the net and on the field. As a goalkeeper Corrales started and played in 6 games for the Saints, recording 71 saves; good enough for 43rd place in the top 100 for Division 1 NJCAA. He also recorded a save percentage of .855. On the field, both as a midfielder and Center Back, Corrales, ended up 3rd in points with 16 (7 goals and 2 assists) and 1 game winning goal. Hector was also one of the Captains for the Saints this season.


Jakup Husejnovic- Sophomore, #0, goalkeeper- Jakup returned as a sophomore goalkeeper this past season to play in 11 games, with 9 of them starts. His 14 goals against were good enough to put him at 65th in Division 1 NJCAA for goalkeepers while having an overall record of 4-2-1 with 2 shutouts. His 55 saves placed him at 77th in Division 1 NJCAA for that category as well.


Simoni Surwavuba- Sophomore, #2, Midfielder- Surwavuba returned to the saints as both a Captain and starter this fall Having played in and starting in 16 out of the 17 matches. Although he only recorded 4 points on the year (1 goal, 2 assists), Surwavuba's presence in the midfield, for the Saints, was vital to the team.
