Saints Fall Short Against Lakeland

The Mercyhurst Saints were unlucky to lose this game Wednesday evening 2-1 after outplaying their opponents Lakeland CC for all of the first half. The Saints went ahead through a beautifully crafted goal after 27 seconds which saw the ball move from back to front and Elena Banta's #11 wonderful through ball was finished perfectly from Krista Tabbachi #4 for her first goal of the season. This happened without the opposition touching the ball and gave the Saints a dream start for the vibrant crowd to enjoy. The Saints looked very calm in possession and looked to influence the game more in particular with #26 Maegan Seeman and #11 Elena Banta excelling in the midfield.

The opening 45 saw Lakeland limited to long range efforts on goal and the back line was outstanding in denying them close range opportunities. The second half saw Lakeland equalize straight away with some good combination play and then a few minutes later were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box leaving Goalkeeper #1 Hannah Hellebuyck with no chance at all to win the game. It was a great atmosphere and the crowd really got involved and enjoyed a real battle between two very good sides. It was a tough loss for the Saints but their performance is something that they can take a huge amount of pride in.
