North East, PA-The Saints fell short today with a 7-0 loss to a very good and experienced SUNY Broome side in North East. In what started out a bright first opening 10 minutes quickly became a lackluster performance in truth. The Saints nearly opened the scoring as SUNY Broome Goalkeeper let the ball bounce over her foot and somehow cleared it off the line when the ball looked clearly over. However, that was the start of the Saints misery as some sloppy defensive play led to the visitors going 1 up shortly after. The Saints were unlucky not to have efforts on goal result in an actual goal but a combination of some good goalkeeping and hitting the post and bar made sure they went away without a goal despite SUNY Broome only register 3 more total shots the entire game.
The Saints day worsened when their star player Elena Banta #11 was needlessly chopped down from behind and went down in a great amount of pain and then 10 minutes later Hannah Hellebuyck #12 went down in very similar circumstances. By the end it was almost to a point where it was a struggle for the Saints to field 11 healthy players as both the physical battle and lack of control from the officials (again) resulted in needless injuries for both sides.
The Lady Saints wish SUNY Broome all the best with their season and the game was a good lesson for the Saints which they can build on in the next game away against Jamestown CC on Wednesday September 11 at 4pm. The Lady Saints would like to thank their fans for coming out today and filling the campus seating again, we look forward to rewarding the fans with some great soccer on September 15th when they entertain Lackawanna.
