NORTH EAST, PA-The Lady Saints demonstrated on Saturday that they are a team who can match anyone on their day! In what was a display of ultimate professionalism in keeping the ball away from a physical opponent, Mercyhurst North East Saints were just simply a class above against Lorain County Community College. It was no surprise after the 10 minute mark when a corner kick resulted in a couple of failed clearances and after a goalmouth scramble, #8 Hannah Piemme was there to poke the Saints in front. There was no doubt about the second goal though, as some clever combination play put #9 Tara Cratsley in who slipped it through to #4 Krista Tabacchi who was as cool as ice when one on one with the onrushing goalkeeper to put the Saints in control at 2-0. LCCC pulled a goal back with some indecisiveness from the GK and defense leading to confusion, allowing the opponent to sneak in and pull a goal back just before the half hour stage. Within 10 minutes later and a sweeping move from back to front saw #14 Juliana Angrignon play a delightful 25 yard pass down the line to the ever willing #9 Tara Cratsley who provided a perfect cross into the box was touched down and substitute #5 May Htoo volleyed the ball into the bottom corner to give the Saints a 3-1 lead at the break.
The second half picked up from where the first half left off and the Saints were creating chance after chance; they just couldn't quite get the break through their play deserved. Into the last 10 minutes and LCCC managed to pull another goal back with their first shot of note in the second half with more indecisiveness from the back line and this set up a nervy final few minutes for the crowd at North East. Those nerves turned into elation when Krista Tabacchi led the breakaway and slipped a glorious through ball for the onrushing #14 Juliana Angrignon to lead by example and seal the game winning goal to send the crowd into jubilation.
Mercyhurst North East will travel to Villa Maria College on Tuesday for a 2pm kick off.
