Saints Volleyball Wins In A Thriller Over GCC

NORTH EAST, PA- The Saints Volleyball team competed against Genesee Community College Thursday evening in Liguori Fieldhouse. The Saints defeated the Cougars, 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-20) and move to 10-6 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

 

In the first set the Saints struggled with serving, providing six serving errors. The Cougars took advantage of the Saints errors and won the first set. In the second set the Saints got settled in with sophomore Erin Froehlich providing four of her seven kills in the second set. Erin Froehlich also helped the Saints behind the line with two aces and nine serving points. In the third set Froehlich was helping again behind the serving line as Elizabeth Kubicar was getting hot in the front row. Elizabeth Kubicar had 6 of her 12 kills in the third set alone. The third set was a battle back and forth with the Saint taking the set by two points 26-24. The fourth set would be the final set as the Saints were victorious.

 

The Saints were led by freshmen Elizabeth Kubicar with 12 kills and four blocks and sophomore Erin Froehlich with seven kills, three aces, and four blocks. In addition outside hitter Riley Sams had 22 digs, Haleima Yates with five kills and digs. Madi Carmona earned her share with 15 digs and two aces. Also Torilynne Nelson was setting up the hitters with 23 assists.

 

Mercyhurst returns to the court Tuesday October 1st when they travel to Buffalo, NY to compete against Erie Community College at 6 p.m.
