RANDOLPH, NJ- Mercyhurst North East volleyball made it back into the District championship match. Mercyhurst North East was District champions in 2018, for the first time. The Saints would again be successful as they would win the championship match over County College of Morris 3-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-21, 25-8).
Mercyhurst played CCM on Saturday and won 3-0. "We have some smart volleyball IQ's on our team, they learn as the match goes on and it shows", Coach Pacholke explained about playing CCM again for the second time. In the first set the Saints got off to a strong start as they would conquer the first set 25-13. In the second set not the same outcome would happen as the Saints fall in set two 18-25. "We had great serving runs in this match" Coach Pacholke mentions. The Saints would show their strengths in set four dominating the set 25-8. "We wanted to put 2019 on a banner that was one of our team goals, it's exciting to see this happen again for the program", as Coach Pacholke explains with excitement.
Leading the way was sophomore Erin Froehlich with 15 kills. In addition, Destiny Goodnight 11 kills and 13 digs. Hope Hasbrouck and Riley Sams both with 16 digs a piece. Setting up the offense was freshmen Torilynne Nelson with 38 assists.
The Saints would win their second District title and are heading back to Charleston, WV. The Saints are currently 19-7 and will wait to see what seed they receive for the National tournament.
